from pm notes to the blinkit girl: how one thread kinda changed things🙃
how a twitter thread led to job offers, media coverage, and unexpected fame
hmmm... so am now called the blinkit girl. or the delivery girl. or the best pm candidate ever?
honestly, none of this was even in the plan when i wrote that thread.
here's how it all started.
it began with a simple idea
i was deep into my work at hopstack, optimizing our mobile app for warehouse operations efficiency- specifically reducing clicks.
during one of those casual discussions with varun and sahana, the best idea came up: to truly understand picker movements, i needed to experience it firsthand.
but where?
the closest q-commerce warehouse came to mind: blinkit. it was nearby, and i'd seen it before.
but there's a catch- only drivers are allowed inside. so, what did i do? signed up as a blinkit delivery driver.
the saturday night hustle
overnight on a saturday, i registered.
got confirmation by sunday afternoon and was ready to roll.
what followed was a day of deliveries and learning:
first order: a beardo product (i was late, but the customer was chill).
second order: a month's groceries, complete with kids’ snacks.
last order: milk, eggs, and oats—a classic.
i noticed something unexpected: both customers and fellow drivers respected me.
but also, shock- i didn’t look like a typical delivery person, and gender dynamics played a role there.
the thread that went viral
after the deliveries, i compiled my pm notes, never expecting anything beyond that.
but then, i decided to tweet other things. and omg, what happened next was insane.
i tweeted and went to sleep. woke up hungry af, grabbed idli and coffee, and casually checked twitter (notifications off since 2020 lol).
albinder (blinkit’s ceo!) had replied to my tweet.
i replied lfg lol
the aftermath: from dms
by monday, my dms were flooded.
journalists wanted interviews.
companies offered jobs.
folks asked if i can check their onboarding flows
overwhelmed, i ignored most of it, focusing on prepping for my isb interview (spoiler: didn’t prep much lol).
one persistent journalist even commented on my instagram reel, so i caved and spoke to her. by tuesday, the print article was out. cute.
the unexpected impact
the biggest win? a small change at blinkit.
sejal from their team informed me later that my thread sparked more conversations, leading to drinking water and seating arrangements for drivers.
devs might hate me.
soon, my story was everywhere - news articles, dms, instagram reels posts
had to tell at home and my mummy scolded me
> mummy literally said loose aa neenu (are you mad or what) but then told - for you it was fun or experiment but for them rs.80 is a lot (folks please don't do this she will kill me)
> what about store manager they would have scolded him to allow you to click this much (went to store and apologized to the manager he was sweet and said nothing happened
> what about your security (told her it was all good) but anyway i told her that am not gonna do anything like this again
and my teachers, old friends, and random people recognized me.
job offers and... stock price drama?
between august and september, job offers poured in- vc firms, founders, product roles, and more. i declined them all, saying, "i’m joining isb."
somehow, people also blamed me for zomato’s stock price fluctuations (lol, as if). others joked blinkit would hire me outright.
life now: blinkit girl forever
even at isb, people recognize me. cafes, hinge, meetups- you name it. it’s weird, but it’s my reality now.
lesson learned:
think before you tweet. but also, don’t overthink. sometimes, chaos is fun.
2024 august was wild, but who knew life would get even crazier after isb?
